Christie had been friends with Obed’s brothers for a couple of years before meeting him, while he had been friends with her sister for a couple of years before meeting her. Christie’s family and friends had been so intertwined that their relationship was never just between them, but also their closest circles. It would take 5 years of friendship, 9 rejections and a year and a half of thought and prayer before they started dating. But once they started, they were certain that they were the one.
Christie had one condition for Obed to fulfil before proposing, he had to face his fear of heights (one day, hopefully, she’ll convince him to skydive with her). On the day he proposed, he woke Christie up at 2am, drove her to The Hunter Valley and they set off on a hot air balloon – his version of overcoming his fear. Knowing she liked roller-coasters, he took her on an emotional one where she felt excited but sad and angry wondering when or IF he would pop the question. The day ended with utter joy as he finally got on one knee in the middle of the Rose garden in the presence of their closest friends and family. She missed her opportunity for a 10th rejection because it was an easy “Yes!” from her.
