I am so grateful to be Micaela and Navid’s photographer during the pandemic. Micaela is an artist and a photographer herself so it was a huge motivation for me. They managed to plan their wedding based on Government’s weekly announcements. This is really next-level planning but yet they are so chilled and thank God that everything worked out really well. Need to really give a special mention to technology. All their overseas relatives could not come to Australia and Micaela’s dad appeared live stream on an iPad. He was carried around like in Futurama (the heads in a glass jar) and managed to walk down the aisle virtually. The whole ceremony was televised live to Argentina. It was such a special moment to connect everybody in different parts of the world despite not physically being together.
When I asked them how they met; this was their story: “We met in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 2016. I was on my first solo backpacking trip (a lifelong dream), he had been traveling for 10 months. I had just gotten out of the plane and was walking by myself in the end being the only person I could find in blocks so I asked him for directions. He and his friend Leo offered to walk with me since they were also swapping hostels. We ended up spending the whole day together.
We kept on meeting in Dublin and London. When we finally had to separate (I was going back home to uni) I thought I would never see him again, but we never stopped messaging. One month later he flew to Argentina to stay with my family. It was my lifelong dream to backpack the world, so I ended up quitting uni and we began hitchhiking the South American continent together. We ended up traveling to South America, Australia and South East Asia together.”
