If Aron and Vinh hadn’t both decided to continue studying and do their Masters, they probably never would have met. The two were very different people from two very different places and lives. In fact, even though they went to uni together for two years, they barely even said a word to each other until their final semester, when they went out with mutual friend (Aron’s housemate Grace). Vinh was actually convinced Aron hated her because she was always in the back of lectures giggling and eating and he was always furiously writing notes – the only interaction she’d previously had with him was when he turned around one day and said “IS EVERYTHING FUNNY?” Little did she know that was just his way of flirting.
Vinh joined Aron and Grace for a few more nights out (mostly to avoid studying for exams) until one night when Grace had gone off to the bar and Vinh and Aron were just dancing, Vinh turned around and just blurted out, “Hey, is it weird if we hook up?” to which Aron replied, “Is it weird if we…no it’s not weird!”
Over the next few weeks Vinh just kept turning up to Aron’s place with food, and the more they talked the more they realised that while it was true that they had grown up very differently (in different states even), that they actually had a lot in common and weren’t so different after all.
A couple of months later, Vinh became the first girl Aron ever said, ‘I love you’ to – though that was before he moved back home to Melbourne for work. The pair did long distance for a year, before, after lots of Vinh’s whining, Aron moved back to Sydney for good. He proposed in October 2018, after 6 years of dating, and though they talked about getting married in late 2019, Vinh was like, nah, 2020 sounds like a good year for marriage. LOL, we all know how that one turns out.
They finally got to tie the knot in April this year, a full year after having a pretend zoom wedding in their back yard on their original April 2020 date, and it was glorious. Hopefully just a taste of things to come.
